Part 1: Leadership in a world of opportunity

Leadership is imperative, locally, nationally and globally. This section shows how leading employers are engaging with the NTO to provide a united voice.

The UK has tremendous existing capability in today's 'e-world'. Widespread recognition of its world-class multimedia companies, Internet start-ups, technology-dependent high-value businesses and open telecoms environment gives the UK great advantage. However, successfully exploiting these inherent strengths to establish the UK as a world leader in the Information Age of the 21st Century demands new leadership. Leading employers, large and small, have come together to provide this, working in collaboration with government and educators.

The e-skills NTO: the voice of employers

Established to act on industry skills needs, the e-skills NTO serves three communities, each represented by an employer-led board with roles as follows:

For the IT Industry
For UK Businesses
For the UK's workforce (IT4all)
Improve the IT industry's global competitiveness through focus on the rapid attainment of world-class skills Increase the strategic exploitation of technology by companies in all sectors, by addressing the skills needs of their professional IT staff Increase the general IT competence of the population, to improve employability and contribution to the economy

Co-ordinating Board: to oversee the coherence of strategy across the three communities. This Board includes the chairs of the three Boards above.

Leadership effectiveness of the e-skills NTO Boards is ensured by the engagement of CEOs and senior serving executives from leading employers and representative smaller companies, including Accenture, Calcom, Compaq, Dell, IBM, ICL, Microsoft, Morgan Chambers, Psion, RM plc and Vistorm . These are complemented by thought-leaders from other influential organisations, including the Professor of New Media & the Internet at the London School of Economics , the Principal of a College of Further Education , the Executive Director of a Learning and Skills Counci l and the Director General of the CSSA , creating a uniquely influential partnership focused on the delivery of this plan. Please go to About Us for a full list of Board Directors.
