NVQ Professional Development Programme in IT Servicing

Around 400 people in 39 companies are coming to the end of their NVQ programmes and expect to receive their City and Guilds Certificates by Christmas. They include a range of e-skills with Software Support and level 3 Field Engineers taking up most of the places. The DfEE has provided financial support to get this underway with companies in the sector who are able to use a competence, fact-based, evidence gathering, approach to performance. Discussions are underway with companies to continue the NVQ programme without further government funding.

Modern Apprenticeship Programme - Wales

The aim of this project is to help address the skill shortages in the IT services sector through the development and implementation of an accessible Modern Apprenticeship programme in Wales. The project will seek to engage new employers in Modern Apprenticeships and create a sustainable implementation programme. Work to date has been to establish a delivery mechanism and to seek feedback from SMEs as to how the programme should be developed. A briefing will be held in October about the work of the NTO in Wales and invitations to members will be issued shortly. The delivery partners for the programme are Coleg Glan Hafren, Yale College, The Cad Centre, Bangor College.

Managed Modern Apprenticeship Programme - Scotland

e-skills.NTO have been successful in obtaining a licence to run a managed MA programme in Scotland. Funding is available for candidates aged 16 to 24. The new managed programme will reduce the amount of administration which companies have had to complete in the past. This programme will be available across the whole of Scotland and any company who has employees based on other sites will be able to engage with one funding body.

Several training models are possible. Companies can be paid to deliver in-house, or training could be subcontracted to another supplier. The aim is to get employees qualified to an SVQ level three and core skills. There is substantial funding available for this candidate group and we would like to increase the number of candidates participating.
