The IT Industry
To CEOs and executives in the IT industry
The use of internet technologies gives your business the potential to be up and running 24 hours a day, seven days a week, around the world. To realise this potential, you and your competitors - need access to skills which are in high demand, short supply and traded globally. To make these skills available, we need a plan for effective cooperation and linkages between industry, education and government. This strategy document defines that plan.
With the guidance of the IT Industry Board, comprising executives from IBM, ICL, Psion, Dell and Accenture, the e-skills NTO will lead a UK agenda that includes:
-
Increasing the number, quality, and work-readiness of new recruits to the IT industry.
-
Improving the ease of access to IT training, and improving assessment of content and quality.
-
Addressing employer needs for IT qualifications, including linking vendor qualifications and national standards.
-
Providing authoritative, industry-wide perspectives of future skills needs for employers, educators and government.
Please download our plan. We are particularly interested in your views on Part 2 "Professional skills", especially the strategic objectives (part 2.2) and the priority initiatives (part 2.3).
We look forward to hearing from you on our discussion forum or in your direct feedback.
Thank you for your time to help us make this strategy meet your needs.
Yours,
Karen Price, CEO e-skills NTO
