About Us / Our Mission

Our mission is to create distinctive competitive advantage for the UK economy by working with employers to increase IT competence throughout the workforce.

The e-skills NTO is an employer-led, not-for-profit organisation, recognised by the Secretary of State as "The National Training Organisation for the Information Age", with responsibility for the whole IT remit. It became operational in July 2000 following the merger of the e-business.nto and ITNTO.

Our role is to serve three communities, each of which is represented by an employer board :

  • For the IT industry
  • For UK Businesses
  • For the UK Workforce

By working with these three major communities, we aim to address the skills issues driven by business exploitation of technology, ranging from basic IT user skills through to leading edge internet development.

NTOs are employer-led, not-for-profit organisations, accredited by government as the voice of employers on skills and competitiveness issues for their sectors. The e-skills NTO is part of a network of over 70 NTOs, each representing a major sector of industry. Further information can be found on the NTO National Council site at www.nto-nc.org .
