ICT industries are undergoing dramatic growth, particularly in services and in the high-tech communications and software arenas, largely driven by the internet revolution. The rate of expansion in the UK is constrained by availability of suitable skills, with traditional recruitment approaches unable to meet demand.
For example, a recent report demonstrates that the supply of graduates emerging from IT courses is well below the levels required to satisfy demand . This has lead to significant job vacancies (c. 10% of up to 1 million employees) and compromised global competitiveness, with wages spiralling as employers compete for existing industry employees.
