"IT Systems Support Technician" is a practical course and CD-ROM package jointly designed by industry and education and leading to a valuable qualification in IT Services.

The rapid expansion in electronics, networking and software systems over the last few years has caused dramatic growth in the need for people with relevant and up-to-date IT Services skills to implement, exploit and maintain these technology solutions.

Whether your company actually specialises in the provision of IT Services or whether you belong to a different industry and need people with these fundamental IT Services skills in-house, the ITSS Technician qualification will meet the training needs of:
  • your new IT Services recruits
  • your existing employees in IT Services related occupations (sales people, helpdesk professionals, etc…).
With this new qualification which is awarded by City & Guilds and attracts government funding, you will be able to provide your students with high quality and relevant training that has currency and credibility with employers in the IT Services sector.

The IT Systems Support Technician qualification provides the knowledge and skills to understand, install, maintain and troubleshoot software and hardware, as well as the necessary inter-personal skills to work with customers.

On successful completion of the course and assessment, the candidate will be awarded the IT Systems Support Technician qualification (Progression Award Level 2) by City & Guilds.

The course has been specifically designed to provide the underpinning knowledge for further vocational training in the IT Services sector, notably for the NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) in IT Services - Customer Systems Support, Level 2, and for training programmes, such as Modern Apprenticeships.

The next level qualification, IT Systems Support Professional, which will underpin the NVQ in IT Services – Customer Systems Support Level 3, is currently under development.

The IT Systems Support Technician qualification is the result of a close collaboration between industry and education representatives, including Compaq Computers Ltd, e-business.nto and City & Guilds.

The creation of the qualification curriculum and computer-based training material has been largely funded by SEEDA (the South East Development Agency), One NorthEast (the North East Development Agency) and ESF (the European Social Fund).
