New Careers Website - role models, case studies and online mentors

Currently the e-skills NTO is gathering female role models, male and female case studies and on-line careers mentors for a new dedicated IT Careers website to be launched in October. The website is being developed as part of a series of careers projects including 21st Century Women , Understanding the Future and Image .

Role models

We are looking for women from a variety of roles and from a variety of backgrounds working within the IT sectors. Role models will be invited to be taped for an online video clip and/or will be asked for a written biography (for those visitors that cannot download the clips as well as role models who do not wish to be filmed).

Case studies

We are looking for graduates from a non-specific IT degree background to complete an on-line questionnaire regarding their path into the IT sector. Subject to employers approval the case studies will be live on the site. The case studies will be accessible by those visiting the site through a search facility by either job role, university, degree, etc, enabling visitors to find people working in IT who have perhaps studied at their university or studied the same degree.

On-line careers mentors

Case study completers will be given the option of becoming an on-line mentor. Message dialogue with visitors to the site will be entered into when specific advice is required. The dialogue will be held in a protected area with mentors addresses held secure. Mentors will be notified that they have queries waiting, which they can access when convenient.

Those individuals involved will have the benefit of exposure on the site for their companies, as the site is to be advertised at careers fairs and workshops around the country. Final approval will be required from individuals and/or employers before going live.
