Advanced and Foundation Modern Apprenticeships
– Information for Individuals

The IT & IT Services Advanced and Foundation Modern Apprenticeships (formerly known as Modern Apprenticeships and National Traineeships) have been developed by industry through the e-skills NTO as a way of training young people to work effectively in their early careers. They are available for the following work areas:

  • Using IT
  • IT & Electronic Services - Support
  • Developing IT

Advanced/Foundation Modern Apprentices are employed by an organisation and undertake both on and off-the-job training throughout their apprenticeship, possibly including attendance at college on a day release basis.

An e-skills NTO AMA/FMA consists of three strands which are inter-related and complementary, providing an on-going structure for training, development and progression:

Vocational Development Key Skills Development Education
An IT or IT Services NVQ
  • At level 3 for an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship (AMA)
  • ß At level 2 for a Foundation Modern Apprenticeship (FMA)
Key Skills such as:
  • Communication
  • Information Technology
  • Application of number
  • Working with others
  • Improving own learning and performance
Underpinning knowledge through the achievement of Technical Certificates or Vocational Related Qualifications (VRQs)
