Telecoms NVQs

National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs) are mainly for people who are already in work or work-based training. In Scotland these are known as Scottish Vocational Qualifications. They are based on the skills, knowledge and understanding needed in jobs.

They are assessed in working conditions and the qualification shows that you can do the job. An NVQ is made up of units which you can take at your own pace & they are available for most occupations. Any required underpinning knowledge not gained in the workplace can be supplemented in colleges and other formal training environments.

First you must choose which NVQ is right for you.

  • Think of the type of work you want to do, and find out who offers the qualifications in your area.
  • Think about what level you need to aim for, not just now but in the future.
  • Talk to your training officer or your human resources manager about how they can support you.
