The Departments of Trade & Industry and Education & Employment are supporting a new strategy to improve the supply of specialist skills in IT, electronics and communications (ITEC). The National Training Organisations (NTOs) for ITEC occupations (e-skills NTO, EMTA, nto tele.com, Skillset and Publishing NTO) have come together in a new strategic group to help deliver the aims and objectives of this strategy. NTOs are UK-wide employer-led strategic bodies recognised by DfEE on behalf of Government to address education and training needs in their sectors. There are over 70 NTOs covering the whole of the UK workforce.

The NTOs are currently implementing programmes of action to give effect to these objectives.
e-skills NTO, the National Traninig Organisation for the Information Age
The e-skills NTO is a non-profit making membership organisation with responsibility for the whole IT remit, which includes the IT industry, employers of IT professionals across all sectors of industry and the entire UK workforce. It became operational in July 2000 following the merger of the e-business.nto and ITNTO.
The e-skills NTO works closely with industry, education and government to identify and address key issues in order to improve workforce competence and maximise business competitiveness. One its main responsibilities is to develop and oversee the vocational standards and qualifications for IT users and professionals at a national level.
