1. INCREASE DEMAND
1.2 e-business for everyone
UK online - ICT Learning Centres
UK online is a major national partnership between Government, local communities and business. It aims to unite Government services and initiatives through a high profile national marketing campaign and brand to increase Internet access for all and help to make the UK a leading e-commerce society.
Any organisation that provides people with access to the internet, i.e.:
-
libraries
-
colleges or HE institutions
-
voluntary and community organisations and local authorities
-
private sector (and all other centres not covered by the categories above)
can apply to become a UK online centre and thus benefit from being a part of a major Government backed campaign. In practical terms, if your organisation is recognised as a UK online centre, it will:
-
be identified with a UK-wide drive
to increase access to the Internet for all through use of the UK online brand
-
benefit from a national marketing and communications campaign
which will include substantial national TV and radio advertising. The advertising will be backed up by a national helpline for people who want to find out more, who will be referred to UK online centres. So your centre can benefit directly
-
take advantage of a practical package of UK online support including:
-
on-line advice and guidance about how the UK online brand can be applied alongside your own branding
-
UK online promotional materials
-
access to online resources to help you identify content and materials which will attract and enable people to learn about and use ICT and the Internet, and regular updates on national developments
The e-skills NTO being the private sector sponsor, provides a helpdesk to support UK online centre applications from private sector organisations.
