Key Skills Resource Pack for IT NVQs
As a main outcome of this project, the NTO has developed a co-ordinated resource package for training providers and employers to enable them to deliver key skill training to their work-based learning candidates. The project built on previous work that the NTO carried out in the first year of KSSP. The co-ordinated resource package contains a number of elements.
Key skills signposting:
a series of signposting documents showing the links between key skills and the IT NVQs.
Self-assessment materials:
these contain a series of 'Skillmeasures' that trainees in any topic area could use to assess their current IT level. Skillmeasures are available at levels 1,2, and 3. They include a summary of what trainees need to be able to do in IT at this level, a set of self-assessment sheets, and a summary and action plan.
Key skills projects:
the key skill projects focus primarily on the Part A of the key skill specifications. They are based around activities that apprentices are likely to be involved in as part of their job and help them to learn and practise communication, number and IT skills at work. All the projects suggest a topic that the apprentice can research over a 3-6 month period. They suggest activities that can be undertaken to supply data for analysis, how to identify customer feedback from research, what type of information include in a report and guidance for presenting data and preparing for a short talk.
Key skills log book:
the package also contains a key skills logbook which will help apprentices record key skills evidence.
