2.4 Strategic Forum

The HE/IT Highway

This new DTI-sponsored project aims to establish a focal point for co-operation between employers of IT professionals and the university network throughout the UK.

The economy increasingly depends upon the acquisition and management of Knowledge. Universities and businesses exist in a world fuelled by an explosion in technology that enables information, ideas, money, products and services to move within and across national borders at increasingly greater speeds and volumes. Universities increasingly provide the key to the high skill - high value economy British business is building to compete globally.

The project will create a web portal to encourage academics and employers of IT professionals to communicate and collaborate. It is planned that, by March 2002, the portal will be piloted by 10 employers and 10 HE Institutions and an ongoing operational plan for expansion and development will be set up.

Partners wanted
We are looking for Universities and Employers who would like to participate in the pilot group - the benefits are the ability to influence the entire project from the very beginning both in broad strategic terms and subsequently at a detailed level. Partners are also sought to form the overall project steering group who will contribute to the strategic guidance of the project and act as an editorial board for the portal content.
