What is SFIA?
|

SFIA is a simple framework that describes the skills required for any job role in the ICT sector.

Who developed SFIA?
|
|
SFIA was developed by the e-skills NTO in conjunction with partners from industry and trade and professional bodies.

Who is it is easily accessible to?
|
|
ICT practitioners and users, employers, education and training providers; and government.
|
Who owns SFIA?
|
|
SFIA is owned by the e-skills NTO.
|
What does the user licence mean?
|
|
In lay terms the licence allows the user to use SFIA within their own organisation freely. However if you provide a product or service to others, based on SFIA, then you must pay a Licence and royalty fee.

What SFIA documents are available in printed format and are there any costs?

The documents listed above are available in print free of charge for single copies. For multiple copies please contact the office for a price.

What is in the SFIA CD?
|
|
The CD contains the pdf files as well as the full Descriptor file in a web enabled format.
|
What is a SFIA Descriptor?
|
|
The Descriptor is the actual skill definition that is the basis of SFIA. It defines for the appropriate level the skills required in terms of Autonomy, Influence, Complexity, Business Skills and Technical.

Why do I need the CD?
|
|
You will need the CD if you need to use SFIA in anything but a superficial manner as only by applying the Skill Descriptors can you accurately define a persons correct skill level foe a given category.

Why does the CD cost so much?
|
|
At £500 plus vat the CD is remarkable value as it has been proven to save many man days of effort for anyone involved in identifying ICT skills for a group of people.

What can SFIA be used for?
|
SFIA is already being used in a variety of ways including

Development programmes
Standardisation of job titles and functions
Resource allocation
to name but a few.

How do I use SFIA?
|

At the moment SFIA can only be used in paper form, although we anticipate software products being available soon.
